about

Wlcome to "LSD Spider", the debut album from Portland/Seattle duo Latest Fad.

Inspired by vintage science photos of the perfect, intricate webs spun by spiders under the influence of LSD, each of the album's eight tracks is journey of synth, percussion, and distortion: Fractured, folding, endlessly expanding sonic webs.

With its pulsing beat and decomposing synth leads, "Glomar Explorer" is the surprise breakout cut from the album. Leadoff single "Amnesty Box" moves through ominous deep bass territory before pivoting into a more driving and orchestral space. Title track "LSD Spider" is a masterful "long-con" of suspense, escorting you slyly down a hallway, intensity risk increasing with each door closing behind.

Quotes:

"A uniquely menacing album filled with the kind of electronics-based soundscapes not heard since prime Demdike Stare or Der Komtur-period Carlos Peron. Their music is ghostly and desolate, while at the same time pulsing and playful. Paul Uusitalo and Daniel Wilk patch together a series of vintage synthesizers, certainly-broken old effects units, and delay vs. delay vs. delay on each of the eight new compositions on their full-length debut. Case in point: “Consider Yourself Slapped” begins with a rhythmic burbling wheeze that gradually builds to a shocking discovery of the long lost spacecraft - found pulverized in the asteroid belt.

"If you're a fan of dark, moody electronics, this really ticks all the boxes..."

— Scott Rutherford (aka DJ Ruth R. Ford, "80LB. Cardstock", KXRY Portland / XRAY.FM)

"Heavy synth explorations — early Tangerine Dream vibes"
— Dave White ("White Hills")
